As of December 2015, the population of Osaka is estimated to be around 8.84 million, of which 210,000 are foreign residents (around 2.4%). Main areas in Osaka are Shinsaibashi, Namba, Umeda, Osaka Castle, and Universal Studios Japan (Known as USL) which attracts visitors from children to adults. Shinsaibashi is a paradise for shoppers and nearby there are many famous okonomiyaki and takoyaki restaurants, the cuisines Osaka is known for. Although a metropolitan city, Osaka is still progressing in its development. For example, Umeda Grand Front and Abenobashi Terminal Building of Tennoji were newly opened. Especially, Abenobashi Terminal Building is an exceptional spot for visitors to enjoy the 360-degree night view from 300m above the ground. The transportation system is also very well developed and is convenient to use. If within Umeda, there are various lines available for use including Osaka municipal subways, JR, Hanshin, and Hankyu rail lines. Due to its various transportation options, many visitors choose Osaka as the starting point of their Kansai travel. Within the city, one can mostly travel anywhere just using subways and JR. Access to Kobe or Nara in Kyoto is also easily available.
