As of December 2015, the population of Kyoto is estimated to be around 2.61 million, of which 53,000 are foreign residents (around 2.1%). Thanks to various world heritage such as Kiyomizu Temple, Kinkakuji, and Fushimi Inari Taisha, as well as numerous attractions including Kyoto cuisine and maiko, Kyoto is named as the world's best city to visit. Tourists may also look forward to Gion Festival which is held for the span of entire July at Yasaka Shrine every year. Moreover, many leading companies, universities, and research institutions are concentrated in Kyoto, which to name a few are, Nintendo (known for Pokemon), Kyosera, and Kyoto University (known for iPS cells). Kyoto is a fulfilling area to live, with relatively cheap rent and beautiful street views consisting of appealing cafes and bakeries.
